How Many Pairs of Shoes do You Own?

Love this new video from Net-A-Porter that was published with their latest magazine issue, “The New Season Shoe Guide.” The online fashion retailer asked various fashion insiders and celebrities how many pairs of shoes they each own — with results ranging from 25 pairs to the hundreds.

Every woman has something she can’t resist adding to her closet. For some, it’s a constant rotation of handbags, sunglasses or jewelry. For others, its changing up their clothing constantly. And for others… it’s shoes.

Which begs the question… how many pairs do you own?

A New-Old Handbag

Last fall, all things feminine, prim and proper were all the rage. In particular, the Celine Box Bag bedecked every fashionista’s arm during Fashion Week in New York, Paris and Milan.

But this look isn’t strictly for fall, in fact the structured handbag is a great option for spring, adding a healthy dose of form to a flouncy dress, floral print or bright shade.

I like versions that come in one shade of leather, with a buckle or other hardware to add some elegance to an otherwise simple bag. With this particular bag, I encourage you to think about it as investing in a classic — this is a style that will always be chic. You get what you pay for in terms of leather, and there is nothing like a supple leather that looks better with age. In fact, this would be a great time to dig through your mom’s closet, she might have a vintage version that still has plenty of life left in it!

Who What Wear: LA Event

Guess who got to meet Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr of Who What Wear today? Ah!

My girlfriend Nancy and I attended their book launch held in West LA celebrating their new book, What to Wear, Where, and to showcase their new shoe collection “W3” with Just Fabulous. And indeed it was fabulous!

Katherine and Hillary were both super sweet, and I was pleasantly surprised by how gracious Hillary was when I told her I adore Who What Wear. That, combined with her being a USC alum (which I found out today from reading The Coveteur — see the posts on Hillary and Katherine’s closets here and here) made me love her even more!

Both the girls signed my What to Wear, Where book and my copy of their original book, Who What Wear. What can I say? I’m a long-time fan. You should definitely check out both for helpful styling ideas for any event.

The W3 shoes from their Just Fabulous collection were to die for and I already spotted a couple of pairs I’d like to get my hands on… including the black peep-toe pumps worn by Hillary and Katherine themselves. In particular, I also loved their strappy nude sandal and their cut-out, black leather pump. The shoes will be available March 15, so keep your eyes open because they’re really beautiful.

The event took place in a small boutique called Satine, which was cute and offered a great selection of designer items (I almost died when I saw the python Lanvin flats). Samantha Ronson DJ-ed, drinks were served by Las Palmas, and overall it was a great night. Thanks Who What Wear!

First Look: Arizona Muse in YSL Manifesto

Got my copy of YSL’s Manifesto today at Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Aside from being a collector’s item, it’s a beautiful publication. Arizona Muse looks stunning, and I’m finally beginning to understand why she’s the model of the moment.

Here’s a first look at her images in the Manifesto:

Nine West’s Fabulous Spring Shoe Line Up

After stumbling upon a pink and orange Nine West shoe that tied in perfectly with my previous post, I started perusing the upcoming Nine West spring shoe collection — and wow! I’m impressed!

I have always been a fan of Nine West. Their shoes fit me perfectly, they’re typically comfortable and their prices are fair in comparison to designer shoes. But the last few seasons I’ve been disappointed with their selection. They tend to be more conservative and less pursuing of trends — makes sense, with the price point and general Nine West customer, this strategy probably works. But it bored me.

This season though, there are lots of goodies to scoop up.

  1. Nine West Golden — $109
This shoe touches on the clog trend that was in last season but keeps it fresh with a cute ankle strap. It’s versatile (wear it with or without socks) and will match any outfit, but look especially great with crop, skinny jeans. Throw on a fur vest if you’re feeling adventurous.
  2. Nine West Pawla — $190
Love this one for being so different. The nude tones make it an easy neutral to pair with an outfit, but the style keeps it interesting. Love this with wide-leg jeans (Gap has a great pair on sale for $59.99), a flowing top and a wide-brimmed straw hat (love J. Crew’s, $34.50). Instant 70’s chic!
  3. Nine West Chartres — $79
Color in a shoe always makes things more interesting. The army green here is just begging to be worn with your military-green anorak from last season! Make sure you make it new by wearing it over a feminine skirt — I like one that is blush and ballerina-esque (American Apparel’s is an affordable option at $38).
  4. Nine West Mai — $99
These flats make me want to sing. They are colored to match any outfit, and the leather strands make it a softer, sweeter gladiator option. I picture these with denim shorts and an oversized, jersey T-shirt (I love the ones made by Kain, $90)
  5. Nine West Sahare — $170
Yes, it’s clear by now that I’m obsessed with pinks and oranges. These peep-toe pumps are a great way to change up your LBD this season. Pair it with some wooden and gold bangles and a belted, sleeved dress (Topshop, $80).
  6. Nine West Jolyn — $89
Denim was huge on the S/S 2011 runways — and most importantly, it was prominent in places other than pants. Denim shoes are a great way to wear the trend, but don’t overload your denim on denim. Wear them with khaki cargo pants (like those J Brand Houlihans that were everywhere) and a button-down silk white blouse for a classic look.
  7. Nine West Braxton — $99
If you can’t tell, I love a platform height. These wedges, with their high, criss-cross ankle straps will lengthen your legs to new heights! Wear them with a printed, bohemian maxi dress ($198) for easy spring style.
  8. Nine West Jaxson — $79
Ever since I was a little girl, hot pink has been a color I can’t get enough of. And now that bright pinks are making a major splash this season, this shoe makes my heart flutter! Make them shine with a white, cotton dress, denim jacket and bright, turquoise necklace! I love this one from Ralph by Ralph Lauren ($78) and this from Kenneth Jay Lane ($82).

Quote of the Day: Gaia Repossi’s Jewelry Best Worn Naked

A cuff from Gaia Repossi's Zadig & Voltaire jewelry collection (Photo: Zadig & Voltaire)

From Elle.com —

Gaia Repossi, however, has already designed her pieces for the French brand [ Zadig & Voltaire] and the lacy rings and cuffs were subjected to plenty of oohing and aahing.  “This is for the girl in the desert, or [who] travels on road trips,” Repossi said.  “As opposed to my [eponymous] jewelry for a woman who lives in an abstract world.”

The rings, which are her favorite, go best with “black pants and a white t-shirt” though really, she says, nothing beats “just naked.”

Hard to argue with that, I suppose.

Trend: Color Alert

This spring, pink and orange are the colors to wear. Preferably together.

From fuschia, to melon, to coral, to poppy, to papaya — pinks and oranges are “in” in a big way. And what more playful and fun colors to bring in the new season?

One of the best things about these warmer-hued colors is that they pair perfectly with another current trend — neutrals. Nudes and blushes rejoice! You now have bright, powerful shades to contrast your subdued simplicity.

In order to pack a punch to your popping shades, try to stay away from ultra-feminine styles — ruffles, A-line skirts and bows need not apply here. Instead, go for bold silhouettes with strong lines to emphasize the color without being overwhelming.

3. Topshop Semi Precious Wrapped Necklace — $28
