Emanating Warmth

I feel a little deceiving posting these photos. Not only were they taken awhile ago (everything about this outfit screams summer), but I’ve since cut my hair!

Nonetheless, this is an outfit that I really loved and wanted to share. The dress I’m wearing is actually a maxi skirt I bought awhile ago — long before maxis were even cool, let alone everywhere! I’ve always had a little bit of an inner bohemian and I think that’s what drew me to the skirt in the first place. I dreamt of wearing it with an embroidered tank, beaded jewelry, denim jacket and tousled hair. I’m not sure that will ever happen but this skirt really does inspire me. Because it’s white and so simple it feels like a blank canvas. But it’s also a little shapeless when worn as a dress so I added a leather jacket to give it some structure and add some toughness to its ethereal quality.

Time for a Change

Sharp Around the Edges

I’ve always liked leopard but this was the first year I’ve actually embraced it. I’ve gotten so much mileage out of these Jeffrey Campbell loafers that I was inspired to find another leopard piece to add to my wardrobe. I also love a good 70’s reference and a bow-front blouse and high-waisted jeans do just that for me.

Red White and Black

This is another outfit I wore earlier in the summer but feels distinctly fall to me. Red, white and black are one of my new favorite fall color combos, one that’s classic and hard to go wrong with. Red was a huge color last fall and it’s back even stronger for this upcoming season. I’ve been dreaming about the color, especially red coats, and am in love with this one from J. Crew. It also pairs wonderfully with camel and khaki, so it layers perfectly with a wool camel coat or khaki trench.

Through the Looking Glass

Here’s some photos from earlier that I hadn’t had time to post yet. All I can think about right now is fall, and it’s ironic because this outfit is so fall, yet it was taken in the midst of summer. I love gold against black. It looks so classic and really pops. Those ankle boots are one of my recent favorite finds. I had been looking at them online for ages, until I realized that if I still wanted them after a few weeks, maybe it was time to go ahead and buy them. I’m always nervous to buy shoes without a free return policy, but these ones worked out perfectly!

I’m One of Teen Vogue’s Best-Dressed Readers

This is so wonderful — thank you Teen Vogue. It’s amazing what late night Googling of your own name can yield. See the post at the Teen Vogue website here and see my original blog post for the outfit here. What a great way to end my day!

Like The Wind

This dress is one of my best finds to date. I got it at a warehouse sale, and it’s a medium while I usually wear a small, but I couldn’t pass it up. With a belt, it’s the perfect length. I love the micropleats, voluminous sleeves and embroidery detail.

California Dreamin’ – The Mamas & The Papas

There’s nothing like an open-knit sweater, cutoffs and sandals to make it feel like summer. For some reason this outfit made me think of The Mamas & The Papas song, California Dreamin’: “I’d be safe and warm, if I was in L.A., California dreaming on such a winter’s day.” It encapsulates the 60s vibe I’ve been feeling lately.

White, Cream and Leo

I’ve been searching for the perfect pair of loafers but haven’t had much success. It’s hard to find such a masculine shoe translated into a women’s style that maintains its boyish charm but still feels distinctly female. I’ve also been searching for the perfect leopard flats, but I’m really picky about the color, shape and size of the animal print because not all leopard (in my opinion) is created equal. Amazingly, I found both things in one pair.

Pretty in Pink

I spent last week in LA packing up my apartment and then in Phoenix visiting my grandparents, and it was gloriously warm. So much so that I was inspired to wear a hot pink tank when I got back despite the fact that San Francisco is perpetually 60 degrees — so I was a little cold taking these photos but the color of the tank is my favorite!
