Look of the Day: Paris Fashion Week

I love this street style photo from Paris Fashion Week. I’m crazy about big florals and this look reminds me of the following Marni pieces I’ve been lusting after on the Outnet:

Left: Floral-Print Silk and Linen-Blend Jacket $504
Right:  Floral-Print Silk Chemise $157.50

I also adore her sunglasses. The shape gives an awesome retro edge to the outfit — keeping it modern — and the color perfectly complements the soft femininity of her jacket. I haven’t purchased sunglasses in awhile (my Wayfarers have served me so, so well) but this inspires me to start looking.

Fall Obsession: Capes

As part of my recent move to the Bay Area, I’ve been trying to supplement the cool-weather closet options in my wardrobe. And as fall approaches, I’ve doing more and more thinking about how exactly I’m going to stay warm. I strongly dislike heavy coats because they often seem to weigh you down but their practicality can’t be denied — and so I was searching for something that would keep me toasty without the weight. Alas! I saw a photo of Rachel Zoe’s collar cape (currently sold out everywhere!), fell in love and started searching for similar pieces.

Capes are a fun alternative to the traditional jacket or coat, and they come in so many variations — colors, lengths, styles. And the best way to avoid looking like Superman or a witch while wearing a cape is to focus on its shape and color. Buttons, collars, belts and trim all help make your cape look fall fabulous rather than Halloween horrible.

I love Blair Waldorf’s bright green cape here from this Gossip Girl image — especially with the polka dot scarf! It’s so Kate-Spade cute. Colors are definitely a continuing trend into fall and a cape or overcoat is a great way to spice up any outfit since you’ll always need something to keep you warm!

This street style photo makes me drool. Her Chloe cape, with those perfectly distressed jeans and supple brown leather tote are such a wonderfully rich fall combination. I love the contrast trim as it helps the cape avoid looking like a piece of fabric or a blanket, adding dimensionality and interest.

And finally, a more traditional cape shape — long and sleek. I love the arm holes and slits in these pieces and these capes take the cake with their elegant simplicity. Because capes have that bell shape, consider wearing skinny or straight-leg pants in order to maintain the proportions of your volume! However, a shorter cape can also look great with bell bottoms or flares — to truly embrace your inner 70s self!

Craving: Minnetonka Shearling Lined Boots

I love fashion and how fabulous it is. And sometimes I love being comfortable.

Luckily, the two aren’t mutually exclusive, but I admit that I have days where I succumb to sweats. I do my best to make it better — yoga pants with a fitted T-shirt, my boyfriend’s college sweaters with leggings — but let’s be honest here. It’s not very fabulous. Sometimes you just don’t want to dress up!

That being said, one of my favorite not-so-cute-but-oh-so-comfortable indulgences are fuzzy shoes. I’m talking about Uggs and my fleece lined moccasins! So terribly un-chic but so perfect for running to the grocery store on a cold winter’s day at 10 a.m.

And so when I saw these shoes while browsing J. Crew’s new arrivals, there was a part of me that just reeaaally wanted them. Despite the fact that they look super comfy, I actually think they could pass for real shoes. And when I think about running out to get eggs on the weekend or picking up a take-out order from the place next door, all I can think is, I totally need these, for that.

So tell me, am I totally crazy? Or is this a justifiable purchase?

(Oh and it turns out there’s a nearly identical version on sale for $59.99 that I sadly don’t like as much.)

Love Profession: Giovanna Battaglia

Giovanna Battaglia has the stuff fashion icons are made of. I cannot get enough of her outfit here, pictured from New York Fashion Week. Aside from the fact that she’s wearing flats, it’s an amazing dress (that color!) and such a fun clutch in zebra.

Love Profession: Joanna Hillman

I know everyone loves Anna Della Russo, but if I had to pick a fashion week best-dressed editor it would be Joanna Hillman. I love her daring and yet still classic style and her fearless approach to color and print.

Sharp Around the Edges

I’ve always liked leopard but this was the first year I’ve actually embraced it. I’ve gotten so much mileage out of these Jeffrey Campbell loafers that I was inspired to find another leopard piece to add to my wardrobe. I also love a good 70’s reference and a bow-front blouse and high-waisted jeans do just that for me.

Love Profession: Lara Stone

There are plenty of beautiful models in the fashion world, each with their own distinctive looks. But for awhile now, I’ve been a little more than obsessed with Lara Stone.

As the face for Calvin Klein, she clearly has more fans than just me. And while this Dutch model is well-known for her lush and curvaceous body, it’s her Brigitte Bardot looks and gap-teeth that I really love.

Look of the Day: Kate Bosworth in Peter Pilotto

Still on the Santorini wavelength, I love this Peter Pilotto dress on Kate Bosworth and her Chanel clutch. I don’t love her shoes but in general this look is summer gorgeous.
